Emna Guediri

Contemporary Micro-Mosaic Artist

Emna Guediri is a Tunisian artist whose practice explores the meeting point between material, memory, nature, and the human spirit. Working with tiny fragments of marble and glass, which she brings together in sterling silver, she creates contemporary micro-mosaic jewelry that exists somewhere between sculpture, personal expression, and the intimate experience of wearing art.

Her relationship with micro-mosaic has grown through years of experimentation, observation, and a persistent desire to discover her own way of working with the material. Rather than simply reproducing an inherited method, Emna has developed an individual approach shaped by patience, intuition, and close attention to each fragment. Every piece is assembled by hand, allowing differences in color, texture, and form to find their place within a greater whole.

Rooted in her Tunisian heritage, her work carries an awareness of the cultural memory held within mosaic, while seeking a language that belongs to the present. Marble offers a sense of permanence; glass introduces light, depth, and subtle transitions of color. Through their contrasts, she explores the coexistence of opposites: strength and fragility, order and spontaneity, silence and expression.

Nature, the human gaze, feminine presence, and the mysteries of existence recur throughout her work. Her pieces are not merely representations of what she sees, but attempts to approach what she feels beneath the surface. An animal's gaze may evoke an ancient knowing; a tree may become a reflection on belonging; a collection of fragments may speak of the possibility of finding harmony without erasing difference.

For Emna, the hand is essential to this process. The time required to shape, prepare, and assemble each tiny element is not simply a technical necessity, but part of the meaning of the work itself. In a world increasingly shaped by speed and artificial production, she remains committed to the value of making slowly, accepting imperfection, and allowing the presence of the maker to remain visible in the finished piece.

Now continuing her artistic journey in Canada, Emna carries her Tunisian roots into a changing landscape, where questions of departure, arrival, identity, and belonging have taken on new significance. Her work becomes a meeting place between places and experiences, between what is carried from the past and what is still unfolding.

Through her practice, Emna seeks not to make fragments disappear, but to bring them into a relationship in which each retains its character. Her jewelry invites a quieter way of looking: one that recognizes beauty in difference, meaning in imperfection, and the extraordinary human presence contained within the smallest things.

The art

Born of darkness.
Alive with light.

Mosaic begins with fragments: Tunisian marble, glass, shifting color, and the dark spaces between. A small change in texture or a glint of light can transform the whole composition. Each work is built slowly by hand, making its finished form a record of many hours of focused craft.

I bring life from stones. Each one begins as something silent and separate, with its own colour, grain and weight. My work is to listen to them and give them a place beside one another, so that they no longer sit apart but coexist, and together hold a presence none of them could have alone.
